What does everyone think of television? Just curious - I stopped watching TV all together between feb and july, then started watching it like an addict while my folks were away.
Used to not own a TV at all. Then when we moved to Portland we decided to get cable TV and a decent flatscreen and turned into HGTV addicts. After a few months we realized that this was not necessarily the most productive way to spend our evenings, now hardly watch it at all. However, the Noggin network is a great toddler distraction tool, so that alone is worth the cable bill.
for years I lived without TV because I couldn't afford it. Now I can, so I have On Demand cable, which comes in nice having a kid since many network do not show appropriate TV shows for youngin's after 5p, which is when we are home. I'm more of a movie person myself and in fact prefer to rent whole seasons of TV shows anymore (Weeds). But I do like what's on my typical channels and of course, there is hulu.com. so um yes? junkie! I read books, too lol.
Dude throw your TV off a dock and get a good internet connection. Anything good on TV is available online. Haven't had a TV for 10 years. The commercials make you a stupid craving zombie.
lol these comments please me. For a while I was all anti-television because my parents watch it excessively and to me that is living life vacariously (even excessive internet use is, which I am guilty of), but it occurs to me that television is just a technology that has it's effects.
And Patrick is right, commercials make you a stupid craving zombie.
I haven't owned a TV since I got back from Peace Corps. My room mates have always had TV and we've paid for cable for them, but I honestly never watch it. Everything I want to watch I can get on Netflix or Hulu, but even then I mostly just "watch" it while I am doing other things. I can't stand to just sit there not doing anything.
When I go home to my parents house it's like 24/7 news channels. They live in front of the TV. It's always kind of a fun experience cause I never see all the commercials when I watch my hulu/netflix. It gives me a sort of culture shock booster dose that reminds me that I really haven't fully integrated back to American life.

I don't own one. But I probably use my internet as much as other people watch television.

ReplyDeleteI have a TV, but only for DVD watching with my family. I don't watch anything else, save for what I find on-line.

I think watching broadcast television is totally bogus
ReplyDeletebut
as a medium for telling stories, a serialized television program is my favorite second only to comic books.
Nice, these are all cool responses. I might to a post about what I feel about tv.
